I had participated in a social educational project last year and I was responsible for designing a course for autism child. Since then I became interesting in some social problems with autism children and their autism families and have been researching it. A book named In A Different Key: The Story of Autism, written by John Donvan and Caren Zucker, was inspired me a lot. It described the history of autism and the development of people’s awareness of knowing autism in social change. The book record plenty of story of autism and their families’ facing difficulties, which extremely impressed me.
The tough things autism families face today is probably the same as those families suffered in the past in some way. So when I had a chance to have a class of editorial illustration, I wanted to used what I had learn to draw for autism and present their trouble and some hard situation they may have to face.
